United Nations Day
The United Nations organization was formed for the purpose of promoting a peaceful existence among all countries in the world. The world celebrates United Nations Day annually on October 24, to honor the interstate organization promoting human rights, social progress, and world peace.
Al Manar International School/ Izghawa students and staff celebrated United Nations Day on Wednesday 24th of October 2018. Everybody came dressed in Blue and white; the symbolized colors of UN. During the morning Assembly, students from different classes delivered speeches and watched presentation about the goals of United Nations; like eradicate poverty and hunger, helping refugees, to achieve universal education, to ensure environmental sustainability, importance of multiculturalism … In addition, during social studies periods, students learned that the United Nations is an organization which aims to ensure that all countries of the world come together, addressing several units that serve the public interest to live in peace.
Inviting persons from outside school community to present workshops is an important aspect for professional development in school, so we invited Mrs. Maricel Fernandez; a Program Officer for Education UNESCO Office in Doha, who introduced the history of UN and its main principals. In addition, she reviewed the Sustainable Development Goals, explained the importance of the Goal which is dedicated to education, and stressed on the importance of quality education for the future of young people and children.
The entire day was full of excitement and it was a very successful and informative event for AMIS stakeholders.
